Overview
The South Western Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force CLG approached Kola Digital, a digital marketing agency Kildare, to support the re-design of their brand, SURF: Substance Use Regional Forum.
As a regional organisation responsible for implementing national policy around alcohol and drug use, the Task Force plays a critical role in supporting communities impacted by substance use. Their work focuses on developing effective local responses through collaboration with state services, community, voluntary organisations and individuals with lived experience.
With the new identity in development, the organisation required a strategy and plan to launch the brand.
With the new identity in development, the organisation required a strategy and plan to launch the brand.
As a web design agency in Ireland Kola Digital was contacted to lead the brand strategy, ensuring the new identity was implemented consistently across their website, social media, marketing materials, and internal communications.
The goal was to create a cohesive and professional brand presence that was able to support the organisation’s work, improve communication with the public, and provide a clear platform for sharing resources, services, and initiatives.
The Process
Discovery & Brand Rollout Strategy
The project began with an initial strategy meeting with the Task Force team to understand their goals for the SURF rebrand and the timeline for launch.
The organisation planned to unveil the new brand around a national awareness day, making it essential that all brand assets, digital platforms, and promotional materials were ready in time for the launch.
Kola Digital created a detailed strategy that defined where and how the SURF brand would appear across both online and offline channels. This plan ensured that the new identity would be introduced in a coordinated and impactful way.
Brand Development
The first phase of the project focused on refining and finalising the SURF brand identity.
Kola Digital refreshed the proposed SURF logo and developed three colour and design variations to explore how the brand could be represented across different applications.
Once the final direction was approved, the logo suite was produced in multiple formats to support both digital and print usage.
Alongside the logo development, Kola Digital also advised on key technical requirements for the brand launch, including securing the relevant domain names and setting up email infrastructure to support the new SURF identity.
Marketing Materials
To ensure the brand remained consistent across all communication channels, Kola Digital developed a full suite of branded materials, including business stationery design and supporting visual assets.
This included the design of essential stationery and marketing assets such as:
- Letterheads and compliment slips
- Business card templates as part of the business stationery design
- Email signature templates
- Pull-up banners
- Project listing leaflets
- PowerPoint presentation templates
Two design concepts were created for each item, with multiple rounds of revisions to ensure the materials aligned with the organisation’s messaging and brand identity.
These materials enabled the SURF brand to be presented consistently across meetings, events, community engagement activities, and internal communications.
Brand Guidelines
To support long-term brand consistency, Kola Digital produced a comprehensive Brand Guidelines Booklet.
This document outlined the key elements of the SURF brand, including logo usage, colour palettes, typography, and design principles.
The brand book ensures that anyone working with the organisation can apply the brand correctly across future communications and campaigns.
All final assets were delivered in editable formats, allowing the organisation to easily update materials when needed.
Website Design & Development
Alongside the brand rollout, Kola Digital designed and developed a new mobile-responsive website to support the SURF initiative.
The website was designed to act as an accessible community information hub for communities, services, and organisations working within the substance use sector.
The site includes featured key sections such as:
- Home and organisational overview
- About the Task Force
- Service directory and resource pages
- Dedicated pages for individual projects
- Educational pages focused on understanding drug use
- News and updates
- Contact and enquiry pages
The website was built with a content management system, allowing the organisation to easily update information and add new pages as their work evolves.
Additional functionality included:
- Social media feed
- Google Analytics and Search Console integration
- Cookie management and privacy compliance tools
- Optional donation functionality
To ensure the website remains secure and up to date, Kola Digital also provided one year of hosting and maintenance, along with training for staff on how to manage and update the website.
The Result
The SURF project successfully delivered a complete brand rollout that introduced the new identity across both digital and physical platforms.
The organisation now benefits from a cohesive and professional brand presence supported by consistent marketing materials, clear brand guidelines, and a fully functional website.
The new platform allows SURF to:
- Share information and resources with communities
- Promote projects and initiatives
- Connect with partner organisations and stakeholders
- Communicate important updates and news
- Provide accessible information about substance use and available supports
By combining strategic planning, brand development, and digital design, the project created a strong foundation for the organisation’s future communication and community engagement.
